This line of Czechoslovak fortification, built in 1936–1938 on the then borders with Germany, had on the territory of today’s City of Opava 18 fortresses and over 140 bunkers. In May and in September 1938 the fortification was used by the Czechoslovak army, whose soldiers were ready to defend the country. After the signing of the “Munich Treaty” the Czech army had to leave the fortification without a struggle. Many of the bunkers in the Opava Region were used by Germans to defend themselves against the “Red Army” and the Czechoslovak army during the “Ostrava- Opava Military Operation” in April and May 1945.
