A lot of emphasis in Racibórz is put on developing entrepreneurial skills in young people. Since 2002 the basics of entrepreneurship and economy are taught in local schools, which helps strengthen in young people the need for current personal as well as future professional development. It makes secondary school graduates more aware of their future rights and responsibilities as employees.
Town Hall engagement in stimulating entrepreneurial skills is also reflected in their other actions aimed at young people such as the following.
Competitions and educational actions
Using the available EU funding Racibórz has carried out two significant educational campaigns in recent years:
- Equalization of educational opportunities and ensuring high quality educational system funded from the Socrates Comennius Programme within the European Social Fund.
- „Crossing borders” – a project funded from the Interreg Programme for Polish-Czech cross border cooperation within the scope of the European Fund for Regional Development, action 3.3, Microprojects’ Fund in the Silesia Euroregion.
Both projects made it possible for children from primary and secondary schools to take part in educational activities developing their skills and talents. An additional target of introducing various aspects of sole trading and running a private business to young people was achieved at the same time. Business oriented activities were given special emphasis in project stages carried out in secondary schools.
Thanks to the competition „Young Business Leader 2015”, organized by the Racibórz Chamber of Commerce and the Crafts Guild, with the help of the Żory Chamber of Commerce, young people could check their knowledge in entrepreneurship, economy, finance and business. The main partner of the competition was the Katowice Special Economic Zone, whereas the honorary patronage was held by prof. Jerzy Buzek, an MEP and the former Prime Minister of Poland.
Training programmes for young people
Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Zawodowa w Raciborzu (the State School of Higher Vocational Education in Racibórz) closely cooperates with local organizations and companies in organizing vocational training programmes and internships for students, including RAFAKO S.A. – one of the biggest employers in the region.
In October 2016 an agreement on cooperation between the Town of Racibórz, Poviat Raciborski and PWSZ is to come in force. The parties jointly undertake to promote the region as a place with a rich educational offer and significant potential for professional development.
