Villeneuve d`Ascq
Villeneuve d'Ascq is a town and commune in France, Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, in the Nord department, situated in Lille metropolis, south-east from its centre. Nearby, there is a large motorway junction 4 Cantons, which is an intersection of motorways to Paris, Calais and London, Antwerp and Amsterdam, as well as to Brussels and Liège. The town’s area includes approx. 1,000 hectares of green areas, lakes, woods and arable fields. The town’s nickname is Technopole Verte (Green Technopolis) because, apart from a large amount of green areas, it also is an important science and technology centre.
The co-operation agreement was signed on 16 October 2007
Signing took place in Villeneuve d`Ascq in the presence of:
- Deputy President W. Krzyżek,
- Mayor of Villeneuve d`Ascq J. M. Stievenard,
- Mayor of Leverkusen E. Kuchler
Both Cities committed themselves to develop the co-operation, in particular in the following fields:
- environmental protection,
- promotion of sustainable development,
- culture,
- tourism,
- sports and recreation,
- local administration,
- joint activities for young people, the disabled and elderly people
