The rich history of Racibórz as the historical capital of the Duchy of Racibórz and its location at the intersection of main routes running from the Czech and Moravia to Carcow, Rus and Silesia, resulted in numerous XIII-century buildings and monuments still being present in the area of contemporary Racibórz. All this makes Racibórz a good destination for tourism and recreation trips.

The main public space of Racibórz is the old urban arrangement of the town with its central marketplace. The most important historical monuments in the central part of the town include: XVII-century castle walls built on a foundation of an old gothic building from the 1st half of XVII century or a XVIII-century inn on ul. Londzina (regarded as the oldest inn in Upper Silesia).
Sacral buildings are among the oldest buildings in Racibórz, including: the first church in Racibórz (the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) dated 1205 and the pearl of Silesian gothic architecture – the St. Thomas of Canterbury Castle Chapel in Ostróg, founded in 1287 by Przemysł, the Duke of Racibórz.
